American man killed in clashes in Kaya town

A senior official at the U.S. Embassy in South Sudan confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that an American man has been killed in clashes between government and opposition troops in the town of Kaya on the Ugandan border on Saturday morning.

SPLA army deputy spokesman Col. Santo Domic Chol said in a statement that the foreigner was killed Saturday morning when rebel forces attacked the town of Kaya today morning.

He said the man was found among 15 rebel soldiers killed during the fighting. “What made it strange is that one of the bodies that were found on the ground is a white man. The body is yet to be identified,” he said.

Santo pointed out that the opposition had attempted to control the town of Kaya but they were repulsed.

Santo pointed out that the white man’s body is at the Juba Teaching Hospital, until his relatives are informed.

The army spokesman claimed that the town of Kaya is fully under their control.
