South Sudanese president sacks Twic governor

June 2, 2018 (JUBA) – South Sudanese President Salva Kiir relieved the Twic Governor Koon Manyiel Kuol from his position, on the backdrop of a dispute over the capital of the newly created state.
In a decision published on Friday, Kiir appointed the Deputy Governor, Awet Aken Atem was appointed as the Acting-Governor.
The presidential decree didn’t elaborate on what motivated Kuol’s sack.

S. Sudanese authorities crackdown on allies of ex-army chief

April 16, 2018 (AWEIL) – Authorities in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state arrested dozens of former army chief of staff, General Paul Malong Awan’s allies in the latest move to suppress his activities.
Those arrested on Sunday, sources told Sudan Tribune, included the state assembly speaker, Deng Ayom as well as five other lawmakers.

WHO, partners respond to flood crises in two S. Sudan states

September 19, 2017 (JUBA) – The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and partners are scaling up the emergency response in the flood affected areas of Aweil West and Aweil North Counties of former Norther Bahr el Ghazal State, and Maban County of former Upper Nile State.
