Five Members of Parliament Arrested In Gok State

Five Members of Parliament have allegedly been arrested by security authorities in Gok State.

The speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, Veronica Ujima Philip Dak says the lawmakers include government chief whip Santino Manyiel, Reuben Maleng Machut, Simon Mayor Marial, Gordon Ater Machar and female MP Ayen Amen Adhor.

Speaker Dak says their absence was noted when they did not turn up for a legislative sitting on Wednesday last week.

The Speaker could not confirm the reason for the arrest, saying she is waiting to receive the official charges.

Speaker Dak says the arrest could be in relation to a resolution recently passed by the state government banning public figures from engaging in political discussions outside the state assembly and official public rallies.
