The Okugo Refugee Camp is located in the southern part of Gambella region, Western Ethiopia, and hosts South Sudanese refugees of whom majority come from Jonglei state fleeing ethnic conflict. The main ethnic groups are Agnuak (59), Murle 38%) and others (3%). The refugees are mainly farmers and pastoralists.
Expansion of the camp to provide settlement space to decongest the existing zones was completed. Four blocks of camp space with transitional shelter, water connection and emergency latrines have been developed ready for the relocation exercise. Additionally, 27 Murle South Sudanese asylum seekers arrived in the camp awaiting registration. These asylum seekers forms part of more than 3,502 South Sudanese refugees who arrived in the camp in since January 2017.
