The head coach of South Sudan’s national team, Ashu Cyprian Besong has said they need to work hard and star well in the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) group stage qualifier away to Malawi.
“It is good we qualified for the Group stage, but we need to put in a lot of effort for the Group stage now. The players must realise that they must work really hard so that we get a good result in Malawi,” said the coach.
Besong who named a provisional 28-man squad last week to start preparations ahead of the game against Malawi on November 13th said he is optimistic his team has what it takes to continue registering good results.
The Bright Star ejected Seychelles 3-1 on aggregate in the preliminary round of the 2021 Afcon qualifier. They are now placed in Group B alongside Burkina Faso, Uganda and Malawi.
Besong explained that they must work hard to prepare a balanced team because qualifiers in the group stage are really tough games. “Starting well with a good result away to Malawi would be positive and motivate us more before we host Burkina Faso,” added the coach.
Besong has this time invited South Korea based duo of Pal Paul Puok and Martin Sawi to the national team for the first time.
The squad has 12 players invited from Australia, 10 from South Sudan, 1 from Uganda and two each from South Korea and Kenya.
