The governor of Tonj, Athony Bol Madut, has dismissed 6 commissioners for reportedly failing to persuade armed youth to surrender their guns to the SPLA.
According to the state minister of information, those commissioners did not comply with disarmament procedures in their respective counties.
“The government found that some of the counties or the county commissioners did not complete the process of the government, the policies of the government of protection and maintaining security,” said Mr Bol.
He said each commissioner had been directed to talk the youth out of possessing guns following increased communal clashes there.
“So some recommendations were made to reshuffle those commissioners who were not able to meet the target or to implement the policies of the state government,” he said.
Those relieved include the commissioners of Luanyjang East, Luanyjang South, Luanyjang North, Luanyjang Central, Palal and Kirik counties.
Mr. Bol added that new commissioners were named after the dismissal.
