South Sudan NEWS PORTAL – (US) Over Labor Day weekend, August 30 – September 1, 2019, Lexington, VA will be hosting the South Sudanese Diaspora Network for Reconciliation and Peace conference at Grace Episcopal Church.

One hundred South Sudanese Diaspora members are expected to attend. Archbishop of the Episcopal Province of South Sudan, The Rt. Rev. Justin Badi Arama will be in attendance, as well. The weekend will culminate with a joyous celebration of The Feast Day of Marc Nikkel on Sunday at Grace Church. Marc Nikkel was an Episcopal Priest from Southwest Virginia and a missionary to Sudan. Nikkel died of cancer in the late 1990’s. Many members of the diaspora knew Marc and were touched by his ministry in Sudan.

Lodging in private homes will be provided to conference participants at no cost.

The South Sudanese Diaspora Network for Reconciliation and Peace is striving to create an environment for the diverse community of South Sudan to work together for peace through dialogue and to open up avenues for reconciliation. The network is engaged in cross-cultural dialogue that fosters respect for one another, promotes justice, peace and reconciliation, and works to counteract tribalism to end oppression, hate, violence and conflict.
