At least two people have been confirmed dead in an attacked by unknown armed men along Abyei – Amiet Market road on Sunday last week. A Land-cruiser Hardtop travelling from Wunrok County in Twic State with at least 14 passengers was attacked by the criminals alleged to be Misseriyia tribesmen leaving two people dead.
The deceased were identified as Adhar Ring from Wunrok County who was the driver commonly known as Adhar Big and Manyiel Ring Malek from Turalei County.
“All the passengers were businessmen who were believed to be carrying a large amount of money to buy goods in Amiet Market,” an eyewitness said.
“I arrived and saw two people lying down just a few kilometres from Abyei town. Those who were in the car some of them were cattle traders who sell cows at Amiet Market,” said the driver who arrived to scene after the incident.
Amiet Market is a market being operated jointly understand temporary agreement between Misseriyia tribesmen from Sudan and Abyei Administrative Area.
The attempts to get a comment from the UN forces of UNISFA, which are tasked with security in Abyei area were futile.
