H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Nhial Deng Nhial as the new Minister of Presidential Affairs in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity.
The swearing-in ceremony was administered by the Chief Justice, Chan Reech Madut at the Office of the President before senior government officials and SPLM cadres.
Speaking during the oath-taking ceremony, President Salva Kiir emphasized that he did not have any problem with his former Minister Mayiik Ayii Deng but he fired him from the position because of the issue of the Bahr el Ghazal Road construction project. President Salva Kiir added that the construction of the road started in a poor manner and urged the new minister to review the whole construction process
Senior Presidential advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk said they were concerned as senior members of SPLM when the first office was being occupied by some individuals who are not in the SPLM leadership structure. In addition, Kuol Manyang Juuk called for a committee to be formed to investigate what transpired in Sherikat yesterday
Vice President for infrastructure cluster, Taban Deng Gai said, it is the time to move the country forward as a ruling party adding that the changes had nothing to do with former Minister Mayiik Ayii as an individual, but the demand from the people that the SPLM party needs to take lead in the country’s affairs
The Vice President for Gender and youth cluster Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior said, in regards to the incident that occurred in Sherikat, that the government should take full responsibility of the situation and calm the communities involved. Rebecca Nyandeng added that people knew what was going on but the government did not intervene to take action on time
The SPLM Acting Secretary General Jemma Nunu Kumba in her remarks outlined that the SPLM party is happy with the appointment of Nhial Deng Nhial as the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Nunu said, it is the mandate of the SPLM as a ruling party to take the lead in the affairs of the nation
In his remarks, the newly appointed Minister of Presidential Affairs, Nhial Deng Nhial pledged that he will ensure President Salva Kiir works cordially with other leaders and stakeholders in the country, and to make sure that all concerns of the nation and it’s citizens are brought to his attention in a timely manner.
