Deng Gai renounced his candidacy for the Chairmanship of SSNYU, 2019, and stand down in favor of Mr. Gola Boyoi Gola.
“First and foremost, I want to seize this magnificent opportunity to extend my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for your solid commitment towards the realization of a democratic, credible, transparent, free and fair election for the leadership of SSNYU, 2019. Words are not sufficient to extend my wholehearted thanks to my supporters, predominantly my campaign team for their unconditional and unwavering support for the last eight (8) months” Said Gai.
Notwithstanding, due to unavoidable and unforeseen circumstances, coupled with national interest beyond my jurisdiction, I regret to inform you that, I withdraw my candidacy for the Chairmanship of SSNYU, 2019, and stand down in favor of Mr. Gola Boyoi Gola. Fellow delegates, countrymen, and women, for the last eight (8) months we have been at the forefront in championing peaceful co-existence which is our core value as South Sudanese citizens. I realized that most of us participated genuinely in this electoral process with the hope that our unity in diversity is realized and should not be compromised to an extent of creating a commotion among young people in this country, yet we mostly experienced recurrent crises caused by political struggles, he added.
Beyond our national sovereignty achievement as a people and as young people of this land; we have another celebration right in our hands. For the first time; youth are destined for their own leadership through a democratic process. A value is driven – servant leadership. We must all appreciate the importance of working together as a people, as a youth, and as a nation. The youth have been polarized by the Conflict on a tribal basis, hence, we must unite our ranks irrespective of our ethnic, social and political affiliations and collectively contribute to unity in diversity, sustainable peace, and nation-building. We are to aspire for none Violence and Champion Peace as the condition that works for us and our communities. Peace-building is to constitute part and parcel of our daily work schedule as a cross-cutting issue and as a matter of urgency.
We must build bridges across our vast and beautiful cultures, languages, beliefs, dreams and aspirations as a people with a common heritage. All Youth MATTER; all TRIBES matter; all LANGUAGES matter; all CULTURES matter; all LIVES matter, all POINTS OF VIEW matter and COUNT. We must, therefore, provide an opportunity for everybody to be HEARD, to Speak Up and to be COUNTED. The Unity of young people is paramount for the modern transformation of any society.
The 2.5 million precious lives that we lost because of this country were not from one tribe but from the sixty-four (64) tribes of South Sudan. These people can not be taken for guaranteed. Ergo, we MUST save the lives of those who are still living for the sake of this country and her posterity. This unilateral decision will definitely disappoint you, especially my supporters who have been spending sleepless nights to make sure I realize my vision for the youth of this beloved country. However, be rest assured that, it’s not a cowardice action, but a nationalistic undertaking. For us to realize unity in diversity, social cohesion, sustainable peace, and nation-building, we must embrace the promotion of minorities as a national agenda in this country. Therefore, for the sake of the former Greater Jonglei, Greater Upper Nile Region and South Sudan at large, I wholeheartedly decided to stand down in favor of my brother Gola Boyoi Gola and I am kindly appealing to all my supporters to vote for him in the 2nd National Youth Union convention.
The bible reiterated that, let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not fear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God and an avenger who carries God’s wrath on the wrongdoer, Gai said.
