September 23, 2017 (JUBA) – The South Sudanese government on Saturday called for the “unconditional” release of 14 officials captured by rebels on Wednesday near its border with Ethiopia.
Dickson Gatluak, a military spokesman for the armed opposition faction loyal to the First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, said armed youth linked to exiled rebel leader, Riek Machar detained at least 14 members of the peace delegation in Akobo county, Bieh state.

Dozen killed as S. Sudan rival forces clash in Unity state

September 18, 2017 (BENTIU) – At least 19 people were killed in recent clashes between South Sudan rebels and government troops in Nhialdiu, an area southwest of the former Unity state capital, Bentiu.

Releasing S. Sudan ex-army chief could spark war: official

September 13, 2017 (JUBA) – There is a likelihood war could break out in South Sudan’s Bahr el Ghazal region, if the former army chief of staff Paul Malong Awan is allowed to travel out of the country, an official said.

Senior rebel commander killed in S. Sudan’s Gbudue state

September 10, 2017 (YAMBIO) – A senior commander of South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM), a rebel entity operating in Gbudue was reportedly killed together with several of his body guards on Sunday.

South Sudanese president grants rebel leader amnesty

September 4, 2017 (JUBA) – South Sudan president Salva Kiir has granted amnesty to Thomas Cirilo Swaka, a former military general who quit the Juba government in March to form a rebel movement.
The presidential adviser on military affairs, Daniel Awet Akot said it was now up to the Swaka to accept and respond to the pardon.

South Sudan rebels warn oil workers to vacate oilfields

September 2, 2017 (JUBA) – South Sudanese rebels have warned oil workers operating in the oil-producing regions of Unity state to leave the area.
The rebel spokesperson, Brig. Gen William Gatjiath said their forces were heading to the oil fields, claims Sudan Tribune could not verity.
