N. Darfur to transform IDPs camps into permanent residential areas

June 13, 2018 (KHARTOUM) – The government of North Darfur State said it would embark on planning IDPs camps to accommodate those who are willing to stay permanently and integrate into the local community.
The Sudanese government seeks to dismantle IDPs camps that have been established in areas around the capitals of Darfur’s five states since the eruption of the armed conflict in the region.

Darfur Sortoni Camp: IDPs dreams of returning home remain distant

May 18, 2018 (NAIROBI) – Two years ago fighting erupted in Jebel Marra forcing nearly 160,000 people to look for protection. Over 23,000 settled around the small village of Sortoni and clustered together to form an IDP camp. But many are still reluctant to return home despite the difficulties of life in the IDP camps.

N. Darfur governor criticises UNAMID delay of stabilisation plan

North Darfur governor acknowledges limited outcome of disarmament campaign

December 24, 2017 (EL-FASHER) – The government of North Darfur admitted that the disarmament campaign has achieved limited success pointing to the large proliferation of illegal weapons in the state.
In an interview with the local radio, North Darfur governor Abdel-Wahid Youssef said: “very limited amounts of [illegal] weapons have been collected during the previous period compared to the actual quantities of arms in the state”.

RSF extends voluntary disarmament deadline at Darfur tribal leader hometown

December 4, 2017 (EL-FASHER) – The government militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has extended the deadline for the voluntary surrendering of illicit weapons at the hometown of the Darfur tribal leader Musa Hilal.

23 people killed in North Darfur clashes with Musa Hilal fighters: army

Sudan plans to attack IDPs camps in Darfur: SRF

November 24, 2017 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese Revolutionary Forces (SRF) led by Minni Minnawi has warned against government plot to attack the IDPs camps in Darfur under the pretext of the disarmament campaign.

Former WFP local workers protest in North Darfur over unpaid dues

Swiss aid worker abducted by unknown gunmen in North Darfur

October 8, 2017 (EL-FASHER) – Unknown gunmen on Saturday have kidnapped the Swiss humanitarian worker, Margaret Schenkel, from her home in downtown El-Fasher, capital of North Darfur state.

September 30, 2017 (EL-FASHER) – One person was killed and several of others injured by unidentified gunmen in two separate incidents in the locality of Tawila, some 60 kilometres west of North Darfur capital, El-Fasher.
