Sudan, Belarus agree to implement cooperation agreements

August 30, 2017 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan and Belarus Wednesday have agreed on the immediate implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries in the fields of oil industry, agricultural and animal processing.
Earlier this year, Belarus and Sudan signed an agreement on friendly relations and cooperation. The document was signed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Sudan's President Omer al-Bashir in Khartoum.

South Sudan rebels say talks to release Machar from S. Africa ongoing

August 30, 2017 (JUBA) - A South Sudanese rebel official says diplomatic efforts involving regional leaders are underway to have the armed opposition leader, Riek Machar freed from South Africa.
Nathaniel Perieno, the rebel-appointed governor of Imatong state told Sudan Tribune Tuesday that the process begun after the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailmariam Deselgn met the Sudanese President Omer Hussein Al Bashir during a visit to Khartoum last week.

Opposition figure, officers defect to FVP Taban faction

August 29, 2017 (ADDIS ABABA) – An “influential” opposition figure from the opposition faction of Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM-IO) led by former Vice President, Riek Machar on Tuesday officially declared that he has switched his loyalty to first Vice President Taban Deng Gai-led SPLM-IO faction.
Major Tut Rom, commissioner of Jotome County in Maiwut state defected along with 15 officers.

U.S. Tillerson to end position of Sudans’ special envoy: report

August 28, 2017 (WASHINGTON) - U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is planning to end the position of special envoy for Sudan and South Sudan disclosed CNN in a report released on its website on Monday.
According to the cable news network, the special envoy for Sudan and South Sudan " will be subsumed under the Bureau of African Affairs".

August 28, 2017 (JUBA) - South Sudan President Salva Kiir may have granted general amnesty to all his political opponents, their supporters and those who participated in the country's civil war, but the pardon did not apply to rebel leader Riek Machar's former spokesperson, James Gatdet Dak who is currently detained.

SPLMN al-Hilu delegation arrives in Addis Ababa to meet African mediation

August 28, 2017 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudan People's Liberation Movement/North led by Abdel-Aziz al-Hilu (SPLMN al-Hilu) said it has dispatched a delegation to meet with the African mediation in Addis Ababa.
In a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, SPLMN-al-Hilu spokesperson Arnu Ngutulu Lodi said the delegation has arrived in Addis Ababa on Monday to meet with the African Union High Implementation Panel (AUHIP).

Sudan’s al-Bashir says keen to restore stability in Libya

August 27, 2017 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir Sunday has underscored his country's keenness to achieve security and stability in Libya describing ties between the two countries as “eternal and historical”.
