Infection rates for COVID-19 continued to increase throughout May. This followed the lifting of government restrictions and the dissolution and reconstitution of the national body responsible for managing the pandemic.

Against the backdrop of continued delays to the peace agreement, localized conflict has persisted, especially impacting Jonglei State, where hundreds of civilians were estimated to have been killed and injured in fighting between different groups.

Monthly Highlights

160,357 internally displaced persons (IDPs) supported with water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services at the PoC sites in Bentiu, Malakal, and Wau;

  • 26,351 individuals received outpatient consultations;

  • 1,335 households were supported with shelter and non-food items (S-NFI) in Jur River in Western Bahr el Ghazal.

  • 10,086 individuals attended and received mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services.
