Machar, Wife says they are recovering from Coronavirus

Speaking via teleconference from Juba to worshipers in Khartoum today, Machar said he and Mrs. Teny who is also the minister of defense were recovering and that they are being monitored by doctors since he went into self-isolation.

For her part, Mrs. Teny said she has been well since they were told of their COVID-19 status about a week ago and that they will be well soon.

Last week, Machar announced that he and his wife were among several members of the former high-level task-force who have contracted the virus.

Some of Machar’s bodyguards and other staff also have the virus.

Experts worry that decades of conflict have left South Sudan incapable of dealing with a surge in new infections.

So far South Sudan has officially recorded 551 cases of COVID-19, six (6) deaths and six (6) recoveries; however, recent testing shows that the virus is hardly under control.
