South Sudan NEWS PORTAL – (JUBA) As of August 2019, South Sudan has diplomatic relations with 139 countries. In May 2019, the Government announced it had sacked 40 overseas diplomats for not showing up for work, some of them for years.
Subsequently, the government announced a planned review the number of its overseas embassies in the same month due to financial constraints. Mr Mawien Makol, the spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry, told local media Juba is finding it difficult to manage most embassies abroad.
South Sudan operates 39 embassies and a consulate in Dubai. These include 8 embassies in Europe, 4 in Asia, 2 in the United States (including in New York for the United Nations) and 11 embassies in Africa.
In this article we bring you five of the European embassies causing financial stress to the country:
1) The South Sudan Embassy in Moscow, Russia
The South Sudanese embassy in Russia is one of 25 South Sudanese diplomatic and consular representations abroad. Located at 1st Khvostov Lane, 12, building 1, Moscow.
Headed by former lakes state governor Chol Tong Mayay, the embassy is tasked with establishing interactive links on political, economic, social and cultural, investment opportunities, consular services, and tourism with Russia.
This Embassy also serves as a non-resident representation to the Republics of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Turkmenistan.
2) The South Sudan Embassy in London, United Kingdom
Located at 22-25 Portman Close in the south of London, the Embassy strives to promote and consolidate bilateral relations in all fields between South Sudan and Great Britain. It also engages with non-government local and international organizations in the United Kingdom. It is currently headed by Maker Ayuel Deng.

3) The South Sudan Embassy to Germany
The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Berlin Germany opened in the autumn of 2012 and is located in the heart of the city at Leipziger Platz 8, 10117 Berlin on the third floor. H.E. Ambassador Beatrice Khamisa Wani Noah is the Head of Mission.

4) The South Sudan Embassy in Brussels, Belgium
The South Sudan Embassy in Brussels represents foreign relations with both Belgium and the European Union. It offers services such as visa applications, issuing travel documents and assistance with legal documents.

5) The South Sudan Embassy to Norway
The South Sudan Mission to Norway is based in Oslo City at Prinsessealeen 2- 0231 Skyøyen. It was upgraded into a full Embassy on 9th July 2011 on the Independence day of the Republic of South Sudan. It also covers the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark , Finland and Iceland, and provides consular services both to the South Sudanese diaspora in Nordic Countries and visiting Nordic nationals to South Sudan. The embassy is headed by former chief of state protocols Bol Wek Agoth.
