Head coach of South Sudan’s women’s team, Moses Machar Akol has said taking part in their first Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup is great exposure for the players.

“I am very happy that finally we have started women’s football and our players will feature in their first regional tournament starting this weekend in Tanzania,” said Akol before the team traveled on Wednesday.

The regional tournament that will attract eight teams will run November 16-25th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

South Sudan will open their campaign in a Group A match against defending champions Tanzania on November 16th before taking on Zanzibar two days later. They will face Burundi in the last Group game on November 20th.

Francis Amin Michael, President of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) called upon all well wishers and the private sector to come and support women’s football. “This is a good beginning for as we just completed the South Sudan Women’s Cup. We are determined to develop football in the country to better levels,” added Amin.

The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals to be played on November 23rd. The play-off and final will take place on November 25th at the Chamanzi Stadium which will host the entire tournament.

Group A: Tanzania, Burundi, Zanzibar, South Sudan

Group B: Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti
