Rwanda’s Ministry of Sports on Friday announced a list of non-contact outdoor sports activities which have been allowed to resume in light of the prevailing situation with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In March, Rwanda announced an indefinite ban on large gatherings during sports activities.

The activities are jogging, athletics, individual physical fitness outdoor exercise, hiking, cycling, golf, tennis, fencing, motorsports and badminton.

“The Ministry of Sports informs the general public that the above mentioned sports activities will resume starting Monday June 8th 2020,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also released strict health guidelines to be followed by players and all stakeholders of the sports.

The regulations include the mandatory wearing of a face mask before and after every session, carrying hand sanitisers at all times and using them when necessary and maintenance of social distancing (1.5 metres) between individuals.

Others include the daily cleaning and sanitization of training facilities and mandatory avoidance of sharing sports equipment or placing one’s equipment next to someone else’s.

The ministry further barred people who are sick from participating in the sporting activities.

“Individuals with the following symptoms are not allowed to practice sports or physical exercises in public but rather consult health services (symptoms such as flu, cold, fever, cough, sneezing, headache),” the statement said.
