Security Situation Returning to Normal”; Says Minister

By James Deng Dimo WAU 23, May, 2019 [GURTONG] – Authorities in Wau State said the security situation in some of counties is improving, following the recent attacks which claimed nearly 10 people dead. Last Sunday, four people, including a one-month old infant, were killed in an attack at Kwajina town. The incident followed immediately with an attack on a commercial vehicle which was travelling from Wau to Warrap town. That attack claimed one person dead and two injured. Last Tuesday similar attack happened along Awiel – Wau road in which three people lost their lives. While speaking in an inclusive interview with Gurtong in Wau today, Wau State Minister for Local Government, Law Enforcement Agencies and Parliamentary Affairs, Michael Madut Chan, said the Tuesday killing of three people along Awiel road was triggered by a killing of a cattle keeper by unknown people in the area. Yesterday also, two people were founded dead and damped near the river in Agok, South part of Wau Town. Criminal killings have been on the rise, though officials assure the population that Tonj, Wau and Gorial states are working very hard to calm down the situation. “The incident that happened along Roc Roc Dong Road, in which one person was killed is a criminal case because those ambushed the car targeted one person, from whom they looted cash. Right now the police are perusing these criminals and they will be brought to book,” said the minister. The suspected killer of a cattle keeper along Udic Road, the minister said, has been arrested and will be arrange in court. The minister also regretted the revenge killing in which two people were killed in Udici County. “The killing of two people in Udici came as result of killing a cattle keeper in the area, the parents of the disease came and revenge, but we in Wau state government are in contact with Gogrial authority to apprehend the culprits as we did in Wau,” he said.
