  • The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in South Sudan, David Shearer, stated that since the signature of the September 2018 Revitalized Agreement of the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan between the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar to end conflict in the country, political violence has “dropped dramatically.” Despite the fall in political violence, conflict is still ongoing, said Mr. Shearer, pointing to, among others, ethnic violence that has led to killings, and in the South of the country, where the fighters of Thomas Cirilo’s National Salvation Front have been involved in clashes with Government forces.
