Three men arrested for ‘inciting violence’ in Jonglei

Police in Jonglei has arrested three men suspected of inciting an inter-clan fight that left three people injured.

The state deputy Police Commissioner, Col Chol Achiek Deng told Eye radio, that the fight was triggered by a quarrel between two young people – a boy and a girl.

“The problem was between a lady and a certain youth from Baidit-Anyakuei and their guys from Koc. The guy held the girl’s hand after the wrestling as part of courtship and the girl didn’t agree and from there they abused themselves. The abuses annoyed the guy.”

The police said two hail from two neighboring clans in Jonglei.

Col Achiek said two men and a woman sustained injuries during the clash and are now receiving treatment at Bor civil hospital.

He said the suspects hit the girl with an object.

“He just took a cane and hit the girl’s mouth and now the girl is in the hospital terribly sick. Her upper teeth are broken.”

Col Achiek said the incident happened after a wrestling game that took place in Langbar playing ground over the weekend.

“The guy held the girl’s hand after the wrestling as part of courtship and the girl didn’t agree and from there they abused themselves. The abuses annoyed the guy.”

The Police Commissioner said the suspects shall be arraigned in court soon.
